Q. How many treatments will I need for satisfaction?
A. Your hair grows in cycles. The number of treatments required for satisfaction will depend upon
your hair and skin color and coarseness of your hair. Everyone will require at least 5 or 6 treatments-- typically spaced
at intervals from 6 to 8 weeks-- as only a portion of the hair follicles in the treated area (approximately 20%) are disabled
with each treatment.
Q. Should I expect to be hair free in the
treated area after the series of treatment?
A. No, many patients experience
a permanent reduction of between 60% and 80% in the amount of hair in a given area after the series of treatments, but you
should not expect to be totally “hair free”. After a series of treatments the quality of the hair remaining is
also typically much finer and lighter-colored than it was before being treated.
Q. Is laser hair removal “permanent”?
A. Laser hair
removal has been in use for some time, and stable hair loss has been reported as far back as seven years. The devices used
by our clinic have received clearance through the FDA to claim “permanent hair reduction”.
Q. What areas can be safely treated?
A.
Hair removal treatments can be performed on almost any area of the body or face for men and women – from small areas
such as your upper lip, underarms, bikini area, chin, neck, and face, to larger areas such as arms, chest, back, and legs.
Q. Why are light-based treatments the preferred modalities for hair removal?
A. Most people are great candidates for the procedure. Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving,
plucking and waxing, provide only temporary hair reduction. Until now, the only long-lasting hair removal solution has been
by electrolysis - which can be extremely time-consuming, uncomfortable and expensive, and is usually limited
to small areas, because each hair is treated
individually
Q.
Is light-based hair removal covered by insurance?
A. Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement
for cosmetic procedures.
